Martin to Race Trucks, not Retire

Mark Martin will not retire from NASCAR next season and will race in the Craftsman Truck series instead

The 46 year-old is one of the Nextel Cup's most experienced drivers, with 34 wins from 614 starts. It was thought that 2005 would be Martin's last year of racing after he announced he would retire from the Nextel Cup at the end of the season.

However Martin has said he will enter the full truck series, and will compete in a Ford with his current team Roush Racing.

"Craftsman Truck racing looks like the best racing in NASCAR," Martin said. "I like the schedule. They race on Fridays. They race on Saturdays. They have shorter events. Every driver I've talked to that runs the series loves it. That's what I want to do.

"The Championship is going to be a goal, but I'm not going to get caught up in that because it doesn't matter to me. I'm gonna be a fierce competitor, but I really want to focus on having fun and being happy."

Martin also said that he'll contest more than one season in the formula.

"I look forward to being in the driver's seat for many years to come," Martin added, "but I don't expect it to be Nextel Cup. From now on in my racing career, I'm going to do what I want to do, not what's the best business or anything else."
