Logano hoped for more on debut
Teenage NASCAR Nationwide Series debutant Joey Logano was slightly frustrated by the outcome of his first lap despite finishing in sixth place - the best of the non-Sprint Cup drivers - at Dover
Logano's much-anticipated debut saw him run in the top five in the closing stages until being overtaken by Greg Biffle, who will start on pole for today's Cup race at the track.
But instead of celebrating a top six debut, Logano was more keen on looking at what prevented him from running better than he did.
"What put us behind was having to battle back all day and not being able to get that track position like we needed. Overall I would say it was a decent day," said the 18-year-old about his debut.
"I guess we were a sixth-place car and we finished sixth. I thought we might have been a little better. I might have screwed up there in the pits. We came in and got pinned in behind the nine (Kasey Kahne) a little bit and I pulled up and then he was stuck so he put it in reverse and backed over my left front fender.
"We had to come back in and pull that out so that kind of put us behind for the rest of the day trying to get track position. Overall I thought it was a good day. The whole team did good but I was hoping for that top five, though."
The Gibbs driver says he won't be happy until he gets his first ever Nationwide Series victory, but he admitted he was pleased to get his first race out of the way after all the media hype that had surrounded it.
"Definitely, definitely, definitely glad to get this behind me," Logano said. "It's been coming up for lord knows how long and to get it behind me and get all of the stuff out of the way and run the 17 other races I've got now and focus on that and not about all of this other stuff now - that's cool.
"I'm looking forward to going to Nashville. Somewhere I've been before. I've tested there a lot in the Cup cars so that should be a good place for us, too."
