Kahne confident with Charger
Kasey Kahne is confident in the ability of his Evernham Motorsports Dodge Charger, despite fellow Dodge team Penske Racing switching to a 2004 car for the second and third races of this season
For the races at California and Las Vegas, Penske are to switch to the 2004 Dodge - previously known as the Intrepid - because they believe it will be faster than their current car around those intermediate-style tracks.
But Evernham are going to peruse developing the current Charger, and although Kahne is curious with regard to Penske's switch, he is still confident of it being competitive.
"I'm confident going into those races, yeah." Kahne told autosport.com.
"It is tough to say exactly what is going to happen when you have 42 other cars around you, and the way we tested in Vegas I'm very confident we can go out there and be one of the fastest cars in practice, one of the fastest cars in qualifying and then once we get in the race hopefully be one of the fastest cars.
"But we won't know until we're with the other cars.
"For Evernham Motorsports the Charger is the way to go. For Penske Racing the 2004 Dodge is the way to go. When you see that it really confuses you and makes you wonder how is this year is going to pan out and how is this car going to be.
"The other manufacturers, they have one car and they know that it is better than the other car but we're hoping that the Charger is better. We've made some modifications there to make it better."
