Hornish fastest in Busch test
Three-time IRL Indycar champion and 2006 Indy 500 winner Sam Hornish showed that he can be quick in a stock car too, after setting the fastest speed at Daytona's NASCAR Jackson Hewitt Pre-season Thunder Busch Series test on Sunday
Hornish, who made his NASCAR Busch debut last year at Phoenix, drafted to a 187.833 mph lap on Sunday afternoon in his No. 12B Penske Racing Dodge.
Only Kyle Busch had managed to go quicker than Hornish when he lapped at 187.919 mph on Saturday afternoon.
Both Busch and Hornish have gone faster than the best speed set during Nextel Cup testing at Daytona last week by Paul Menard at 187.099 mph.
Sunday was Hornish´s first day of NASCAR testing at Daytona and only his second time in a stock car at a superspeedway, following an ARCA test at Talladega last year. He has been linked with a full-time future in NASCAR and will race at a number of Busch Series rounds this year.
During the single-car runs however, not only Hornish but most Dodge drivers have struggled to match the speed of the Fords, Chevrolets and even the Toyotas which have looked very competitive so far.
Casey Mears, driving the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, was second fastest on Sunday behind Hornish and also went fastest than the more powerful Cup cars at 187.309 mph.
Cup drivers Denny Hamlin, David Gilliland and Kyle Busch rounded up the top-five on Sunday´s afternoon drafting practice session at Daytona.
Busch Series testing at Daytona will finish on Tuesday.
