Hendrick renews GM deal

The current Nextel Cup champions have won six titles in NASCAR's top division, all of them with General Motors. Rick Hendrick is the only team owner who was won more than 150 races in the modern era and took the first victory with the new Car of Tomorrow Chevy Impala SS this year at Bristol.

"With four strong Hendrick teams and drivers, three currently in the top 10 in driver standings, we are looking forward to even more exciting racing this year and continued success with the Hendrick organization in the 'bowtie' brand going forward."

Hendrick Motorsports is arguably the leading Chevrolet team right now, having won 11 out of 25 races this year. Three of their four drivers are already locked in the Chase for the Nextel Cup, including former champions Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson as well as Kyle Busch.

"So much of our success on the track is due to the commitment Chevrolet has made to its teams," said team owner Rick Hendrick.

Hoping to add to his current rate of success, Hendrick signed Dale Earnhardt Jr, NASCAR's most popular driver and a Chevrolet man since his debut, to drive one of his four cars in the Sprint Cup Series next year.

Chevrolet drivers have won 18 of out of 25 Nextel Cup races this year, giving the General Motors brand the lead in the Manufacturer Cup standings. Currently Chevrolet drivers hold nine of the 12 spots available for the Chase for the Championship.
