Franchitti to race at Watkins Glen

Dario Franchitti will return to the Nationwide Series this weekend to compete in the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International

As autosport.com published two weeks ago, the Scot will return to NASCAR's second-level series to complete a limited schedule, sharing driving duties of Chip Ganassi Racing's No.40 Fastenal Dodge with fellow rookie Bryan Clauson.

Franchitti's outing next weekend will be his first on a road course driving a stock car since he failed to qualify for the Sprint Cup series race at Infineon Raceway in June. This time though, his entry is guaranteed to start and he won't have to qualify on time.

The Ganassi driver has previously competed three times at Watkins Glen in the IndyCar series, although on a different, longer configuration of the track to the one he will run on this weekend.

He has two third places as his best results there in 2005 and 2007 while driving for Andretti Green Racing.

Following next Saturday's race, Franchitti is scheduled to compete in at least six other events for the balance of the Nationwide Series season. Thus far he has had eleven outings in the series, with a best result of sixth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
