Edwards, Harvick in shoving incident
NASCAR Sprint Cup title contenders Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick were involved in a verbal and physical exchange on Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway before Nationwide Series practice
Witnesses said Edwards went to Harvick's garage and the pair had a heated conversation, followed by the RCR driver shoving Edwards and pushing him towards Harvick's No. 33 Nationwide series car.
Later while addressing the media, Edwards refused to give any details on the incident, saying it was all between him and Harvick.
However their hard feelings are thought to be related to the latter's quotes after last weekend's race at Talladega, where Edwards triggered a multi-car incident with fifteen laps remaining, which involved twelve cars including Harvick's.
He criticised the Roush Fenway racer for hanging at the back of the field for most of the race, only to start drafting on the closing laps before causing the wreck for which he actually admitted blame.
"Maybe he (Edwards) should have raced the rest of the day. I know that his fans won't be very proud of him sitting back there riding around like a pansy. But when he got up there and decided to start racing, it caused a big wreck," Harvick told the media last Sunday at Talladega.
Also involved in the exchange in the garage was Edwards' motorhome driver, who was said to be trying to separate the two drivers.
Both drivers are set to compete on Friday's Nationwide series event and Saturday in the fifth race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
No penalties are expected for either driver for the exchange.
