CART star Fittipaldi switches codes

CART racer Christian Fittipaldi will switch to the rough and tumble of stock car racing when he competes in the NASCAR Busch Series race at Miami on November 10

Fittipaldi, currently with the Newman/Haas Champ Car outfit, gets to grips with a Busch Series stock car today (Tuesday) during a test day at the 1.5 mile Homestead-Miami Speedway, before attempting to qualify for Miami 300 on November 9. Fittipaldi will be aiming to join a select few drivers who have raced in Formula 1, CART and NASCAR.

"This is very exciting for me," said the 30-year-old Brazilian. "I hope to be well received by those in NASCAR. I have long admired their racing and welcome an opportunity to be a part of it."

Fittipaldi will race an entry fielded by Innovative Motorsports, whose regular driver Kenny Wallace currently lies 10th in the Busch Series standings, and will be sponsored by Mike's Hard Lemonade.

"We are very happy to provide Christian with this opportunity," said Innovative Motorsport's George DeBidart. "We respect his desire to attempt to race in NASCAR. He is as pure a racer as we have seen, and we believe that his talent will translate to stock car racing."
