Busch dominates Dover Nationwide
Kyle Busch dominated the Camping World RV Sales 200, scoring his eighth Nationwide series win of the season at Dover International Speedway
'Rowdy' started from pole position and led almost the entire first half of the race. He then dropped back for a few laps before reclaiming the lead from Mike Bliss, to dominate the last sixty laps of racing.
"I knew it was a good race car, I was just trying to figure out where it would go," said Busch after winning his nineteenth NASCAR-sanctioned race of the season. "It would go anywhere. High, low, all over the place.
"We knew (Mike) Bliss was out there a ways, so once I got to second, I just rode there and bided my time. I knew there was going to be another caution. If not, he was going to have to stop, and I was going to have to stop under green for our final stops.
"I was just trying to be patient and ride our own race, and do what we needed to do to bring this thing home in first place."
Busch won with yet another crew chief, as Dave Rogers continues to serve his suspension following penalties issued after Michigan.
Joel Weidman called the race from the pits with some help from Busch's Cup crew chief Steve Addington, while over the wall, some Cup mechanics helped with great pitstops for the No. 18 JGR Toyota.
Mike Bliss was second and lamented that Busch had selected this race to compete in, as he felt otherwise he would've been able to take his first Nationwide series win in nearly four years. Despite that, he was proud to have been best of the rest, given Busch's dominant form.
"Why the hell did he pick this race to run?" said Bliss. "I wish he had skipped this race. I'm pretty happy, but these guys deserve a win. We were really fast on long runs, but the short runs just weren't quite there."
The race finished under a green-white-chequered following an incident involving Landon Cassill and Steve Wallace on the frontstretch on the penultimate lap. This forced officials to make the race seven laps longer, while providing a closer finish even if Bliss didn't have anything for Busch on the final sprint.
Brad Keselowski had a strong run to third place, which was best among the title contenders, as Carl Edwards was fifth, both gaining some ground on points leader Clint Bowyer, who minimized his losses with a tenth place finish.
The RCR driver made contact with the wall after colliding with Carl Edwards when David Reutimann came out of his pitstall ahead of both, forcing the Roush Fenway racer into Bowyer.
The points leader hit the wall dividing the pits from the track, damaging the front end of his car. He made repairs under caution and was able to finish on the lead lap to maintain a healthy lead in the standing, where he is 186 points ahead of Carl Edwards and 248 in front of Keselowski with only six races remaining.
