Burton brothers 1-2 at Rockingham

Roush Racing driver Jeff Burton took the win at Rockingham's North Carolina Speedway on Sunday, beating older brother Ward to the chequered flag.

The two siblings, who both drive in the Winston Cup NASCAR series, battled it out in the pits at Rockingham.

On lap 325 of 393, Ward pitted under caution while leading the race. When the leaders emerged from their stops, Jeff has snatched the position.

The Ford Taurus of Roush Racing driver Jeff led his brother's Pontiac throughout the remainder of the race.

He crossed the line 0.337s ahead of Davis Racing driver Ward.

'This is the best win we've ever had. The hardest we ever had to work on the chassis,' said Jeff.

'It's hard to go out there and one of your goals has to be to beat your brother.

'The last caution was a blessing for us, because Ward was coming up on us at the end, but he just ran out of laps.'

Bobby Labonte, who is lying second to championship points leader Dale Jarrett, finished third.

However, Jarrett finished right behind Labonte in fourth, and now leads the Joe Gibbs Pontiac racer by 246 points, with just three rounds left in the championship.

Jarrett will clinch his first Winston Cup title if he can finish 19th or better in the remaining rounds.
