Brack unlikely to run at Daytona
Champ Car star Kenny Brack is unlikely to run in this year's Daytona 500 despite testing with the Target/Chip Ganassi team this week
Brack, who had expressed a wish to compete in the showpiece event, completed three days of testing at the 2.5-mile Daytona oval in the team's Dodge Intrepids. But Ganassi said that funding restrictions may not allow him to run in the race on February 17.
"I think the point there is that the business is tightening up and we had high hopes of finding the money for that but it doesn't seem to be coming," said Ganassi. "I don't foresee that happening and it's too bad because we thought Daytona was a place where he might do well."
Brack is no stranger to the Daytona experience, having driven in the International Race of Champions series. The Swede also impressed on the final day of testing, finishing ninth fastest after Thursday's drafts
"Obviously a Winston Cup car is a little different, but it's roughly the same feel. I'm used to the feel a little bit," said Brack.
"It's great to finally be in a Winston Cup car. We haven't drafted here yet, so I don't know how this car will feel in the draft. A stock car is like comparing tennis to squash or something. It's the same game, it's racing, but it's so different when you compare an open wheel car to a stock car."
The team's managing director Mike Hull said that it was still possible that Brack could run but that it hinges on the financing that Ganassi is unlikely to be able to supply.
