Montagny stunned by swift repairs

Franck Montagny said he was amazed at the speed with which Peugeot got his car back on track after his violent accident early in the Spa 1000km

The 908 sustained substantial rear-end damage when Montagny made contact with Jonathan Kennard's KSM Lola LMP2 car and crashed into the Blanchimont barriers.

But it was repaired early in the red flag that followed soon after due to a power cut at the circuit, allowing Montagny and team-mate Stephane Sarrazin to recover to second place.

"Unfortunately we had a hit with another car," Montagny said. "He hadn't seen me in the quick part of the track, and I hit the back of the car. I spun and I hit the tyres.

"I thought the car was really damaged. But the guys did a great job and fixed the car very quickly, so I was back on track in no time. So thanks very much to them.

"After that I just tried to push very hard. I thought I was only going for one stint, but the team asked me to stay another stint inside the car, so I had to do two stints on the tyres and I had been very rough with them in the first.

"So we tried to manage this and set a decent pace on track, and then I passed the drive to Stephane and he did the job perfectly."

Montagny and Sarrazin finished just over a minute behind their victorious team-mates Simon Pagenaud, Sebastien Bourdais and Pedro Lamy. The duo had been set to share their car with Nicolas Minassian, but he withdrew due to rib pains following practice, having strained himself during training.
