Spa 1000km resumes after delay

The Spa 1000km is back underway following a power cut that caused the race to be red-flagged for more than 40 minutes

The race will now run to its six hour maximum time frame, with the Le Mans Series organisers keeping the clock running throughout the delay.

According to series boss Patrick Peter the power loss was a regional problem rather than a circuit issue.

"This is the first time something like this has happened, for me anyway," said Peter. "It's a regional problem - there is no power for 10km here to the town of Spa."

Peter added that he believed the problem had now been solved and that power had been fully restored, though there is speculation that the race might be called a result if the circuit was to go dark again.

Anthony Davidson led the field away after 50 laps in the #1 Peugeot, but swiftly handed the lead back to Rinaldo Capello's Audi when he became the last of the frontrunners to pit for the second time.

But because the race was restarted under the safety car, Capello was forced to defend his lead from Sebastien Bourdais in the #3 Peugeot with the pair running a lap ahead of Davidson.

Fourth was Franck Montagny, who recovered his damaged 908 to the pits so it could be repaired during the break. The Frenchman made contact with Jonathan Kennard as he tried to lap the KSM LMP2 car through Blanchimont and had a heavy impact with the barrier.

Tommy Erdos led the LMP2 class for RML ahead of Olivier Pla in the Quifel machine.

Marc Lieb had also extended his lead in the GT2 class, while the Marc VDS Racing Ford of Eric de Donker continued to head the GT1 class.
