Power cut interrupts Spa 1000km

The Spa 1000km has been stopped just after the two-hour mark due to a major power cut affecting the Belgian circuit

The lack of power has affected communications for the past 20 minutes, and also knocked out the timing screens at the track.

The race has therefore been halted on safety grounds, as race control is unable to monitor events effectively with no power. The cars may be sent out behind the safety car shortly to keep tyre pressures up, but the organisers say the event will not resume until a solution for the power issue is found.

Prior to the stoppage, Allan McNish was holding a 51-second advantage for Audi, having jumped the Peugeots by pitting just before a safety car period.

Peugeot has also suffered the blow of a heavy accident for the Franck Montagny, Stephane Sarrazin and Nicolas Minassian car, which Montagny crashed at Blanchimont after an incident in traffic. The Frenchman was unhurt and managed to bring the car back to the pits with substantial rear end damage.
