Mixed fortunes for title rivals

The top two clubs in the Superleague Formula title race - Liverpool and FC Basel - will start alongside each other on the second row at Estoril on Sunday, but third-placed Tottenham Hotspur could only qualify back in 13th

Adrian Valles starts third for Liverpool, ahead of Basel's Max Wissel. They are separated by 10 points in the championship, but Valles says his sights remain set on race wins.

"I am going for race victories, when you drive for points things can go wrong," he said. "I can win from third on the grid, and I think I'll have stronger race pace than I was able to show in qualifying."

Wissel, who won at Donington in the last round, added: "I think I can be in the frame for victory here as well. I made a big mistake on my semi-final lap against [poleman Antonio] Pizzonia."

Tottenham's Craig Dolby knows he faces an uphill task tomorrow from 13th on the grid after he failed to make the knock-out qualifying stages. He is 21 points behind Valles in the standings.

"It was a frustrating day really," he said. "My car felt like it had rear-wheel steering - it was a bit odd. But I know the team will sort it out. At least I've saved some fresh tyres, and hopefully I'll be on good overtaking form. Tomorrow's another day, and I'm feeling positive about the races."
