Uruguayan confirmed at Coyne

Euro F3000 driver Juan Caceres has been confirmed as Mario Dominguez's replacement at Dale Coyne Racing for this weekend's Champ Car race at Road America

The Uruguayan, who had been competing for the Minardi team in the Formula 3000 Euroseries this year, tested for Coyne last week at Sebring and on the strength of his showing there, he has been signed up, initially for this weekend's race only.

Coyne said: "For now we can only confirm Juan for one race. If he does another, it will be Mexico City, but he certainly won't be doing all three. For one thing, we don't want him to lose his rookie status because we're considering him for a programme for next year. And secondly, we intend to try out another driver before the end of the season."

Dominguez, who will drive for Rocketsports Racing in the last three rounds of the year, was released by Coyne following the critical comments he made to the Mexican media about the Dale Coyne Racing team.

Caceres competed in seven F3000 Italia rounds last year, where his best result was a third place at Brno. Graduating to the F3000 Euroseries this year, he currently lies fifth in the championship table.

The 22-year-old is best known to British fans for his impressive performance at Silverstone in August, in the Euroseries race that supported the Grand Prix Masters event. On a rain-soaked track, from ninth on the grid, he made up five places at the start, and went on to finish second.

He also tested the Minardi Formula One car at Vallelunga last winter, alongside Champ Car rookie Katherine Legge, ending the test slightly quicker despite fewer laps.

Said Coyne: "It's tough to be sprung into a series with just a few rounds to go, especially at a circuit like Road America after just some testing for us at Sebring. Given his lack of experience, don't expect Juan to set the track alight, but I think he'll do a competent job first time out."
