Mowlem to drive Zytek at Atlanta

Johnny Mowlem is set to make only his second ever prototype start at Atlanta for Petit Le Mans in the works Zytek entry

Mowlem is an experienced GT racer, and is a class-winner in the GT2 category of the American Le Mans Series this year driving a Ferrari 430.

The 37-year-old will partner Stefan Johansson for the event on September 30, but admitted that he doesn't expect to be right on the pace.

"I'm realistic enough to know that I won't be as quick as Stefan, but he will be a good yardstick," said Mowlem, "and I'm looking forward to driving with him."

The Brit is also aware that his GT experience will count for little in the LMP1 class, where the Zytek will be up against the dominant Audi R10s.

"In GT racing I am a known quantity, but that doesn't apply in a prototype," he said. "There are few opportunities to get behind the wheel of a decent prototype, so this was too good to turn down."

Zytek boss Trevor Foster believes Mowlem's experience of endurance events will benefit the team though, and added that he could drive the car again in the season finale at Laguna Seca.
