GPM could become a championship
Grand Prix Masters could become a full-blown championship from next season, according to series boss Scott Poulter
So far the series for over 45-year-old ex-Formula One drivers has distanced itself from becoming a regular championship, and organisers have only arranged a series of one-off events.
Drivers this season are fighting for the title of being Grand Prix Master of the country of the host race - i.e South Africa and Qatar.
However, in an exclusive interview with this week's journal, Poulter revealed that he is considering a points championship in the future.
"I think we'll look at becoming a championship," Poulter told autosport.com, "but I think it would be premature for us to do it this year.
"But we'll take overall feedback from the drivers and all the stakeholders, and see which way we want to go."
Poulter also admitted that the race format could be adjusted, with potentially having two races per weekend - in a similar style to A1 Grand Prix or GP2.
"Yes, coming away from here we could look at it, look at extending the race or be looking at additional heats," he added.
