Fisichella plans Superstars return as Vallelunga picked for finale

Ex-Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella plans to rejoin the International Superstars Series for its newly-announced season finale at his home track, Vallelunga

The series announced on Friday that it had chosen the Rome venue for its previously unallocated championship finale on October 12-13.

Fisichella contested last year's Vallelunga round in a Maserati, finishing eighth in both races.

The three-time grand prix winner turned sportscar racer said he was determined to be on the grid for his home event again.

"Rome will be hosting an international motorsports event again in 2013 and it's a great satisfaction to have it confirmed," said Fisichella.

"In 2012 I raced with a Maserati Quattroporte and it was exciting to see so many people at the track, a colour-filled paddock and the grandstands packed with fans cheering for me.

"It was a sensational experience, because Vallelunga is my home circuit and I look forward to being back this season too."

Last year's Vallelunga Superstars event attracted 33,000 spectators.

2013 Superstars schedule:

April 7 Monza
May 19 Brno
June 9 Slovakia Ring
June 23 Zolder
July 21 Algarve
September 1 Donington Park
September 29 Imola
October 13 Vallelunga
