Giancarlo Baghetti arrived on the Formula 1 scene in 1961 and immediately made an impact. In doing so, explains NIGEL ROEBUCK, he earned a unique place in the championship's history
By any standards Jacques Villeneuve's Formula 1 debut, in Melbourne in 1996, was striking.
Only the third driver (after Mario Andretti and Carlos Reutemann) to start his first grand prix from pole position, Villeneuve came within five laps of being only the second to win it, but at that point the Williams pit warned that his oil pressure was falling, and he needed to back off immediately.
