The Barcelona weekend was dominated by feverish rumour-mongering on the subject of whether Michael Schumacher was about to (a) re-sign for Ferrari or (b) retire, and whether Kimi Raikkonen was about to (a) sign for Ferrari or (b) sign for Renault. I expect the Monaco weekend to carry on where Barcelona left off.
Some pitlane pundits insist that Ferrari will announce Raikkonen at Monaco. Others swear that's bunkum. Still more are adamant that Renault, newly re-committed to Formula One until the end of 2012, are gunning for Kimi with both barrels.
In all likelihood, the truth is that almost all bets are still on, and that the unreadable-but-unbeatable Finn has yet to make up his mind. And the same is probably true of Michael, who, despite the frustration that his vacillation is causing everyone in F1, should be in no hurry to make up his mind about 2007.
What no one is saying is that Raikkonen will re-sign for McLaren - and, truth be told, I have to side with the majority. That particular party is over, sad to relate. The remaining big question, then, is this: who will partner Fernando Alonso at McLaren in 2007?
