Toseland plays down Fogarty remarks

James Toseland has played down comments attributed to motorbike legend Carl Fogarty claiming he did not have the 'heart' to win in MotoGP

Fogarty is known for his outspoken remarks about the sport - something that Toseland thinks has been used to make a sensational story ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix.

Asked about Fogarty's comment at Donington Park, Toseland said: "I know Carl really well; he is a good friend of mine. I have been in his company when he has done an interview before and he is a journalist's dream because he gives the best answers, controversial answers sometimes.

"I think these (quotes) have been given a different context. I think he would like to ask me if I have got the heart, rather than saying that I haven't got it. I think that is how it is read.

"I know Carl well and I know he is a different kind of guy. I like him and there are no problems between myself and him - I hope he can be here cheering us on."

Toseland has found himself a major centre of attention in the build-up to his home race, as he carries high hopes of a British podium at Donington Park.

And having enjoyed a taste of the Williams F1 team's simulator this week, he is also delighted to be back at a track he knows again after a run of new venues for him.

"It is nice to know which direction out of the garage I need to go," he said. "And going right at the first corner, it helps a lot.

"It has been exciting learning these new tracks like Catalunya and Mugello, I've really enjoyed it, although it is difficult against this field to get up to speed.

"We were in the top six in Catalunya and Mugello, we had a good test (at Barcelona) and if we can transfer this speed to here then I am looking forward to a good weekend."
