Team expect Lorenzo to be fit for Britain

Lorenzo has had to pull out of his home race in Barcelona this weekend after sustaining a severe concussion in a practice crash yesterday.

He spent the night in hospital, but with scans confirming that Lorenzo has not suffered any internal head injuries, Fiat Yamaha's managing director Lin Jarvis said the team anticipate that he will compete in the next round at Donington Park.

"At the moment we have every expectation that he'll be there," Jarvis told BBC television.

"They did a scan last night to check there were no serious internal injuries in the brain so it's just a matter of recovery from the concussion and taking time out."

Jarvis also confirmed that Lorenzo had sustained no other injuries beyond his concussion.

"The update I got this morning from Dani Amatriain (Lorenzo's manager) in hospital with Jorge is that he obviously suffered a pretty big concussion and quite a blow on the head," he said.

"Luckily he has no other serious injuries elsewhere on his body. He's lost some skin on his fingers but that's not a big issue. The biggest issue right now is that he needs to take time out, rest, relax, be quiet and just recover from this heavy concussion."

Lorenzo was still recovering from ankle fractures sustained in a practice crash in Shanghai, and had also crashed in practice in France and in the race in Italy.

Despite his injuries - which left him initially relying on a wheelchair when not riding the bike - Lorenzo did not miss any races following the Shanghai crash.

Jarvis dismissed suggestions that the Spaniard should have taken more time to recover from his first accident.

"I think everybody saw him return instantly in China and post some very good results," Jarvis said. "Last weekend he made a mistake in the race, which was a shame as he was riding very well.

"Yesterday he was riding very well in the morning session, and let's be honest, a lot of people went down in the bad conditions (in the afternoon). So I don't think you can put it down to the fact that he should have taken more time after China.

"The fact is now though, after so many crashes recently, it is now time to take time out and use the opportunity to recover and then come back again."
