Stoner stays on top in practice two

Casey Stoner topped the timesheets in second free practice for the United States MotoGP, after having set the fastest time in the first session as well

Stoner was the only rider able to break the 1:23 barrier by setting a time of 1:22.997. His Marlboro Ducati went 0.180 seconds faster than Marco Melandri's Honda Gresini, which was also second in the morning session.

Rizla Suzuki's John Hopkins was third fastest, 0.455 seconds from the top, beating Fiat Yamaha's Colin Edwards who was a further tenth back.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) improved on his morning pace to go fifth, ahead of Edwards' teammate Valentino Rossi, Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen and Nicky Hayden on the second factory Honda.

Loris Capirossi with his works Ducati and Makoto Tamada on the Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3 completed the top ten.

Briton Chaz Davies was 20th and last on his MotoGP debut session with Pramac d'Antin Ducati, after having been called to stand in for Alex Hofmann who was injured in a crash in first practice.
