Stoner eager to close on Rossi's lead

Casey Stoner is eager to close the gap to Valentino Rossi when MotoGP picks up at Brno this weekend after a four-week summer break

The reigning world champion is 25 points behind Rossi in the standings with seven races still to go, and is confident of a strong performance on a circuit he won on last season.

"Brno is a nice track but it's demanding too, a bit like Mugello and Phillip Island, which are two of my favourites," he said.

"With the bike performing as it has been lately, we should be able to fight for a good result again. We've still got a few points to make up in the championship, which won't be easy, but we'll give it our best shot."

Stoner left the last race at Laguna Seca frustrated after criticising Rossi's riding in the battle the pair had for the lead, but he spent the break back home in Australia and says he's returning refreshed and ready for the conclusion of the season.

"After the race at Laguna, I went back to Australia and spent a bit of time with my wife and family away from the track," he added. "I got some rest in, but I also trained hard and now I can't wait to get back on the bike."
