Rossi gets pole at Indianapolis
MotoGP championship leader Valentino Rossi took his second pole position of the year ahead of tomorrow's inaugural Indianapolis Grand Prix
In today's sunny one-hour session, the Fiat Yamaha rider cemented his pole position with a final time of 1:40.776 with less than a minute to go.
Teammate Jorge Lorenzo made a late attempt for pole but slotted into second, before being pushed down to third by Ducati Marlboro's Casey Stoner.
The Australian, who set pole position for the last seven races, ended up 0.084 seconds behind title rival Rossi.
The second row will be led by Repsol Honda's Kentucky man Nicky Hayden, ahead of fellow American Ben Spies, entered by Rizla Suzuki as a wild card, and LCR Honda's Randy de Puniet.
Andrea Dovizioso qualified seventh with his JiR Honda, followed by Honda's Dani Pedrosa in eighth in his qualifying debut with Bridgestone rubber. Alice Ducati's Toni Elias and James Toseland's Yamaha Tech 3 complete the top ten.
Elias, Honda Gresini's Shinya Nakano (17th on the grid) and Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen (15th) all suffered injury-free crashes during the session.
