Rossi: Bridgestone the way to go

Valentino Rossi believes the move to a single tyre supplier in MotoGP next season will be good for the show

But the Italian made it clear that he thinks Bridgestone would be the best option, as he reckons choosing Michelin would be a step backwards.

"I really hope they'll choose Bridgestone, because it's logical to prefer the ones that go better," Rossi was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.

"If they choose Michelin it would be a big step backwards. I prefer Bridgestone also because things are more clear with the Japanese: you know what tyre your rivals are using. When I was with the French I'd could never figure it out.

"But (the move to a single tyre) is a good decision because there will be a better spectacle, I'm sure. The tyres will not perform as good, so the rider will count for more. On top of that qualifying tyres will disappear, and that means being able to prepare the bike better for the race."

Rossi switched to Bridgestone tyres for this season and the Japanese manufacturer has been the dominant force over rivals Michelin.

The move to a single tyre supplier is aimed at reducing costs and speeds, but Rossi reckons that more work needs to be done to slow down the bikes.

"I don't know if limiting tyre performance is enough, it would be better to also consider suspension and electronics. However on this front riders have differing opinions," he added.

"At the beginning the single tyre will reshuffle things, and after that I think things will settle down to normal.

"In any case Bridgestone seems like the most logical choice because these tyres have demonstrated to be the most consistent over 18 tracks, while Michelin has run into problems on some circuits.

"However, it's still hard to understand the way the tyres will be chosen because we don't yet know the rules exactly."
