Rossi and Lorenzo to attend Friday's safety meeting at Assen

Yamaha riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo are set to attend MotoGP's regular safety commission meeting at Assen on Friday, as riders evaluate changes to the Barcelona circuit following Luis Salom's death

The Spanish Moto2 rider lost his life at Turn 12 of the regular MotoGP layout of Circuit de Catalunya earlier this month, following a crash during Friday practice.

In a safety commission meeting attended by 10 MotoGP riders several hours later, a decision was made to adopt the circuit's Formula 1 layout for the balance of the weekend, with some modifications.

That Rossi and Lorenzo were not at the meeting - and have not been attendees in recent times - attracted criticism, but the pair are set to end their exile on Friday.

"I think that tomorrow I will go because I think that we will speak about Barcelona together to understand what we can do for the future - I think it's important," Rossi said.

When asked if he would go, Lorenzo said: "Yes.

"Normally my schedule is very tight and I prefer not to go and trust the other riders who go.

"But I think tomorrow it will be very important to be there because we will decide what to do with developments."

The layout used at Barcelona is set to be the primary topic of discussion, namely between changing Turn 12 to go back to using the MotoGP configuration, or continuing with the F1 specification.

Space to push the wall at Turn 12 back further is limited on the former, while riders would call for more changes to the F1 chicane complex at the end of the lap.

"We need to understand if we have a chance to use the normal MotoGP layout because I think it's better," Rossi said.

"But for me it's not enough to just have the gravel bed where Luis crashed because also with the gravel bed instead of the asphalt I think the situation maybe improve a little bit, but it's not enough.

"So if we want to use that corner we need more run-off area and to have run-off area you need to move the stands.

"About Turn 10, it's also difficult to understand the best way because the normal layout like Lorenzo said is more safe because you have less risk in case of one rider that makes a mistake in the braking like [Andrea] Iannone [on Lorenzo in the race].

"But at the same time the run-off area in Turn 10 is not enough."
