Kawasaki expect to catch up

Kawasaki's Racing Director Ichiro Yoda believes his team will catch up with their rivals once the new season is underway, as they continue to develop their new bike

The Japanese manufacturer have taken full responsibility for their MotoGP efforts this year and Yoda is confident that they can make big progress during the 2007 campaign.

"I don't think we will peak during the pre-season," he told MotoGP's official website. "We started a little bit later than others, but since we put the new bike on the track the progress has been quite good.

"We still have some areas that need further and quicker development, but so far our bike is quite acceptable.

"We already know that we will start the season a little bit behind in terms of results compared to other manufacturers, as they have spent more time to set up the bikes. I am confident that we will catch up soon though."

Yoda claims that Kawasaki have now begun a new three-year programme to become serious contenders in 2009, having originally anticipated that form this year on their return to the category in 2003.

"This year we start a new three-year plan," he said. "We have started a new era and we will be in a good position in 2009. Not just a serious contender but, who knows, why not champions..."
