Jacque fastest in testing at wet Jerez

Kawasaki's Olivier Jacque made up for his disappointing run in the Spanish Grand Prix by topping the times in Monday's rain-hit testing session at Jerez in Spain

The Frenchman finished a lowly 18th place in the race on Sunday, with his team clearly frustrated with his performance, but proved once again his wet weather skills on Monday to edge out his teammate Randy de Puniet by less than one tenth of a second.

Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen was third quickest, just a few hundredths off de Puniet, with Kenny Roberts Jr. continuing to show the improved form he demonstrated last weekend to set the fourth quickest time.

Qatar winner Casey Stoner was fifth fastest, leading the duties for Ducati Marlboro with teammate Loris Capirossi returning home to Monaco for the birth of his first child.

Spaniard Carlos Checa, who enjoyed a morale-boosting return to form at Jerez last weekend, was sixth fastest ahead of Jerez winner Valentino Rossi - whose team's bid to try out engine evolutions will not have been helped by the weather.
