Indianapolis talks continuing

MotoGP's talks with Indianapolis about holding a race at the famous Speedway in 2008 are still ongoing, despite conflicting reports this week that the race was either definitely on or definitely off

Speculation following last weekend's Formula One race at Indianapolis suggested that plans to hold a MotoGP event there had been canned, but a subsequent report on SpeedTV suggested that a contract had actually been signed.

But track president Joie Chitwood has moved quickly to make it clear that no deal is finalised yet, although he is still working hard to make it happen.

"I have had some conversations with them this week, and we're working hard to put something on the calendar," Chitwood told The Associated Press news agency. "But I have not signed anything."

Chitwood said that a proposed date had not been agreed, with Indy preferring a summer date while MotoGP organisers prefer an autumn slot.

And although discussions over a new F1 deal for Indianapolis have stalled, with a July deadline set to reach an agreement, Chitwood made it clear that the grand prix discussions would not impact on the MotoGP talk.

"They have nothing to do with each other," Chitwood said. "We've been working for 18 months on the motorcycles, so it has nothing to do with F1. It had more to do with our history."
