Honda is Pedrosa's first priority

Dani Pedrosa's manager Alberto Puig says the Spanish rider's main priority is to stay at the Honda team next season, despite comments suggesting he will look elsewhere once his contract ends

"You can't close any doors, but at the moment we have to focus on this year. You can't shut your eyes and think that there's only one option available," Pedrosa told AS newspaper earlier this week.

The Spaniard has endured a frustrating season so far, with Honda not having scored a race victory in 14 races. Pedrosa is already 59 points behind championship leader Casey Stoner of Ducati.

The three-time world champion's contract runs out at the end of the season but, despite his comments, Puig says the rider's priority is to stay with Honda.

"Our first priority is the team we are with and the one we have always been with. Dani has only raced with Honda, he has never ridden another bike," Puig told Cadena Ser radio on Tuesday night.

"I think everything (Pedrosa's comments) has been magnified a little, but he didn't say anything that was not true," Puig added.

"It's true that his contract ends at the end of this year, and what he said was that when it runs out, he will look at the most interesting options and then decide.

"It's something that every intelligent person would do, to try and find what's best for him."
