Edwards hopes his luck is changing

Colin Edwards hopes that taking his maiden pole position at Le Mans is a sign that his luck is changing

The Fiat Yamaha rider had a lucky escape this morning, when he reported no injuries after a bad crash in free practice. That was in stark contrast with previous crashes he had this year, notably the one in Turkey a month ago, where he hurt his knee in a first lap collision.

"After this morning, the crash that I had, I got lucky really," said the American.

"I think it was a pretty big crash, and I just kind of bounced. Normally I don't bounce, that's why I don't like to crash, because usually when I do crash, I hurt something.

"I got lucky: out on the last qualifying lap, (I thought) the ground wasn't that bad - I tasted it this morning - so I (thought I) might as well push and see what happens. It all worked out good."

Edwards snatched pole from Ducati's Casey Stoner in the dying seconds of the session with a flying lap one tenth faster than the Australian's.

"This year I don't know if it's luck or karma or what it's been, but in the last couple of races I haven't done that great. So I'm looking to turn that around.

"I'm looking for a good result tomorrow."

Edwards is seventh in the championship with 31 points, having only reached the podium once, at the second race of the year in Jerez.
