Edwards confused by poor wet form
Colin Edwards was baffled by his poor performance in qualifying at Mugello
The American will start 16th, 5.9 seconds from pole position. He had been 17th before the mid-session rain shower, and could only improve by a second as the track dried in the final part of the session.
"Honestly I don't know what to say, I've always been good in the wet but this year it's just not working out at all," said Edwards.
"I'm losing everything on the corner entry; it's basically the same problem as I had in Le Mans.
"In the wet one or two seconds off the pace can be explained but six seconds?
"That's not right and I'm seriously disappointed. It seems I never have any luck at this track."
Edwards had taken pole in the dry at Le Mans a fortnight ago, only to tumble down the order in the wet race - eventually finishing last after a series of pit stops.
Unsurprisingly, he is hoping for a dry race tomorrow.
"Starting from 16th gives me a massive hill to climb in any conditions but I would definitely prefer it to be dry because I feel like we at least made some steps forward this morning with our dry set-up," he said.
