Ducati to evaluate Chaz Davies

Briton Chaz Davies will test a Ducati at Mugello this week amid mounting speculation that he is in the frame for a race seat at Pramac D'Antin next year

After impressing during a last-minute call-up for the Ducati satellite team at Laguna Seca, Davies is being given a full assessment at Mugello after a request from Ducati Project Manager Livio Suppo.

Speaking to MotoGP's official website, Davies said the test on Tuesday and Wednesday has come about after he failed to finalise deals to race at Brno and Misano.

"The opportunity to have another go with the GP7 has been in the air ever since the race at Laguna Seca," said Davies, who filled in for the injured Alex Hofmann at the United States Grand Prix.

"There was talk of Brno - which came very close to happening- and then I also had a strong chance of riding at Misano if Alex wasn't ready to return, which Ducati were very interested in. After that, Livio Suppo just said 'let's see about a test at Mugello."

Davies' test will be overseen by close friend Casey Stoner, who is currently leading the MotoGP championship standings.

"Casey Stoner is coming along to watch. I think that he probably had an influence in the decision to ask me back, which is flattering."
