Schwantz's team unlikely to happen
MotoGP legend Kevin Schwantz had admitted that his plan to bring American rider Ben Spies to the series on a satellite Suzuki next season is unlikely to happen
Spies made his MotoGP debut at Donington Park last weekend, deputising for the injured Loris Capirossi, and the AMA champion is still looking to switch to the championship full time next season with Suzuki.
Schwantz is likely to manage the 23-year-old, who will also enter the MotoGP rounds at Laguna Seca and Indianapolis later this season, and says he's looking at opportunities for Spies.
"I think it's just a waiting situation right now," he told the official MotoGP website. "We had some plans for Suzuki and a third bike, but I guess with things going the way they are, economically, that is not going to happen now.
"There are a couple of different opportunities out there for him, one of which I hope will still be with Suzuki, but I don't exactly know."
Schwantz also praised Spies's debut at Donington last weekend.
"I think Ben did a great job," he added. "Having the first day dry and the second wet, and not really getting a feel for one or the other, to finish were he did, to score points, and not really tear any equipment up, was an outstanding job."
Spies is at Assen this weekend with Schwantz and the Rizla Suzuki team on standby in case Capirossi is unable to race again.
