125cc: Corsi retains pole position at Assen
Simone Corsi confirmed his pole position for the Dutch round of the 125cc series as none of the leading contenders managed to improve their times in the second qualifying session
With the morning rain having stopped, the track was virtually dry by the time the 125cc riders emerged, but conditions still weren't quite good enough to produce fast times.
Donington Park winner Scott Redding was the fastest in the session, but his 1:46.291 lap was 0.2 seconds shy of the time that put him sixth on the grid yesterday.
Corsi will be joined on the front row by Bradley Smith, Joan Olive, and championship leader Mike di Meglio, who had a minor fall, with Sandro Cortese completing the top five ahead of Redding.
The session saw several incidents, including a dramatic tangle between Stefan Bradl and Lorenzo Zanetti. Bradl fell at the final chicane while in the middle of a pack of riders, leaving Zanetti with nowhere to go but into Bradl's crashed Aprilia.
The rest of the group then dodged around the two fallen riders as they slid across the asphalt. Both appeared to escape serious injury, although Bradl lay down on the barrier after stepping away from his crashed bike.
Randy Krummenacher also had a fortunate escape when he low-sided his Red Bull KTM. Although the bike was launched into a series of end-over-end rolls as soon as it hit the gravel trap, by that time Krummenacher himself had safely slid to a halt on the edge of the track.
