125cc: Talmacsi dominates first qualifying

World champion Gabor Talmacsi utterly dominated the first qualifying session for the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring on Friday

The 27-year-old Hungarian, no doubt still fired up from his stirring victory over points leader Mike de Meglio at Assen, moved to the top of the times early in the session. Once in front, he stayed there, banging in fastest lap after fastest lap.

In the end, Talmacsi took provisional pole by 0.3secs from British rider Bradley Smith.

Revelling in the power of the Polaris World Aprilia, Smith might even have gone fastest of all. Having set the fastest first two splits, he came upon Nicolas Terol also on a hot lap, and was held up significantly.

Stefan Bradl, at his home race, was third fastest despite a late fall at the first corner. Simone Corsi, a three-time winner already this season, was fourth.

Joan Olive was fifth fastest ahead of the first KTM, ridden by Tomoyashi Koyama.

Points leader di Meglio could only manage eighth fastest while Talmacsi's teammate Sergio Gadea was disappointing ninth after a run through the gravel.

Terol was tenth, while Pol Espargaro and Donington-winner Scott Redding were 12th and 14th on their respective returns from injury.
