125cc: Pasini dominates at Misano

Mattia Pasini dominated his home San Marino 125cc Grand Prix while Gabor Talmacsi regained the championship lead in a scrap for second place

While Pasini took the lead right at the start from third on the grid, and only briefly relinquished to evaluate his rivals, Talmacsi trailed then-championship leader Hector Faubel throughout the race.

But after Faubel crashed on the penultimate lap while trying to overtake Simone Corsi, Talmacsi who was in fourth place comfortably took the 20 points home for second while his Spanish rival could only finish in a pointless 17th place.

Rimini-born Pasini, scoring the 100th 125cc victory for Aprilia on the 20th anniversary of their first victory in the FIM World Championship right in Misano, allowed Faubel, Corsi and Talmacsi through on the fourth lap.

The Italian slotted into fourth place but not for long, as by the eighth lap he was back in the lead and quickly opened a gap which grew as high as 5.6 seconds by the time his Aprilia rivals tangled up.

Talmacsi, who ultimately finished the race 4.7 seconds behind Pasini, was followed by KTM's Tomoyoshi Koyama in third place a further 3.8 seconds back.

Sergio Gadea's Aprilia ended the race in a lonely fourth place, seven seconds behind Koyama and eight seconds ahead of Aprilia's Pol Espargaro in fifth.

Espargaro led a big group of riders which saw KTM's Randy Krummenacher ending up sixth, Aprilia's Stefan Bradl seventh, Honda's Bradley Smith in eight, Aprilia's Raffaele de Rosa in ninth, and Derbi's Michael Ranseder rounding up the top ten.
