125cc: Faubel retains pole at wet Mugello
Hector Faubel retained pole position for the 125cc race at Mugello as the second qualifying session was also hit by heavy rain
Although all but seven of the 34 riders eventually improved on their Friday times, Fabel and Mike di Meglio's first and second positions remained out of reach.
Faubel could not get within 7.4 seconds of his own Friday time, but with no-one else making sufficient improvements, he will start first tomorrow despite only being 22nd quickest today.
Di Meglio was fastest in the session, but his best time today was still 1.1 seconds shy of his first qualifying time. At one stage in the first half of the session he had been lapping six to eight seconds faster than the competition on the damp track.
The rain then intensified briefly, before the sun broke through towards the end of the half-hour and allowed the track to dry just enough to prompt a rash of last minute improvements.
Gabor Talmacsi jumped to third in the final seconds, albeit still 3.4 seconds from Faubel's pole time, ahead of Dino Lombardi and Tomoyoshi Koyama, who had only been 18th yesterday.
Raffaele de Rosa improved from 26th to sixth, with Andrea Iannone going from 25th to seventh, while eighth-placed Lukas Pesek could not improve on his Friday time.
Mattia Pasini was one of the first men to improve his position, getting up to fourth in the early stages, but he was later bumped down to ninth and was lucky to stay on the road after a wild twitch near the end of the session.
