Moto2: Iannone takes dominant pole

The on-form Andrea Iannone took pole for the German round of the Moto2 series by a crushing 0.7-second margin

Having won two of the last four races, and led at Catalunya until penalised for passing under yellow, Iannone is fast becoming the man to beat in the MotoGP feeder series, and his 1m24.982s pole lap today put the Fimmco Speed Up rider 0.673s clear of his rivals.

Iannone deposed Arne Tode from what would have been a popular home pole, though the German rider will still start a career-best second for his home race.

Championship leader Toni Elias crashed on a late run but had still done enough to retain third, followed by Julian Simon and Gabor Talmacsi, while Thomas Luthi - currently Elias' nearest title rival - had a troubled session and was only 21st.
