Moto2: Kallio takes stunning Donington win

Mika Kallio made a stunning recovery from 14th on the grid to win the 250cc British Grand Prix at Donington and further increasing his lead in the championship

After a first lap that saw him getting into the top ten, the Finn's KTM steadily came up the order and was third by lap ten, two seconds behind the leading pair of Gilera's Marco Simoncelli and Aprilia's Alvaro Bautista.

Kallio, who fully closed the gap to the leaders five laps before the end of the 27-lap race, was in the perfect position to take advantage of any mistakes by the two riders at the front.

And a mistake happened at the last turn of the penultimate lap, when Simoncelli tried to outbrake Bautista and take the lead back. The Italian, however, went wide and forced the Spaniard off the line with him, allowing Kallio to take the lead ahead of the last lap.

Simoncelli then set the fastest lap of the race in his pursuit of the rival, but it wasn't enough and he had to settle for second and postpone hopes of leading the series, which he would have done had he finished on the podium ahead of Kallio.

A disgruntled Bautista finished third, followed by the Aprilias of Hector Barbera in fourth almost eight seconds further back and Thomas Luthi in fifth.

Mattia Pasini crashed from tenth place when he lost the front on lap twelve and retired in the pits after managing to rejoin the track.
