Moto2: Bautista retains pole at wet Donington

Aprilia's Alvaro Bautista retained the pole position he set yesterday after today's wet conditions in second qualifying for the 250cc British Grand Prix meant no one was able to improve

Gilera's championship contender Marco Simoncelli, who was fastest for most of today's 45-minute session at Donington Park, will therefore keep his second spot ahead of the Aprilias of Hector Barbera and Thomas Luthi.

The fastest man today was KTM's Mika Kallio, whose lap of 1:45.482 was over 13 seconds slower than yesterday's pole time, with teammate Hiroshi Aoyama best of the rest a quarter of a second behind the Finn.

Aprilia's Alex Baldolini was third-fastest, ahead of Honda's Yuki Takahashi, Simoncelli, Honda's Imre Toth, and Aprilia's Julian Simon.

Eighth-fastest Alex Debon had a high-side and crashed back-first, while his Aprilia went on unfazed, cut through the grass, and almost crashed into Fabrizio Lai's Gilera while crossing the track before falling on its side and coming to rest in the gravel trap.

Aoyama also had a high-speed off-track excursion but managed not to fall off and rejoin, while the same could not be said of Lukas Pesek and Karel Abraham, whose Aprilias crashed almost simultaneously towards the end of the session.
