Magazine: Gasly's remarkable F1 Italian GP triumph

Shock results in Formula 1 don't happen very often anymore, thanks to the reliability of the cars, but incidents and a pitlane blunder from Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes opened the door for others at Monza.

As Alex Kalinauckas shows in our report, Gasly's win wasn't just about luck. The AlphaTauri driver had to withstand increasing pressure from the chasing McLaren of Carlos Sainz in the closing stages. Given Gasly's turbulent year since being dropped by Red Bull, many were happy to see him succeed, and we ask whether a return to the senior squad alongside Max Verstappen is really the Frenchman's best option.

Sainz is the subject of our big interview in the issue. Having signed for Ferrari, the Spaniard is now having to watch the famous Italian team slide down the field - behind the McLaren squad he will leave in 2021.

But, as Sainz tells us, he doesn't regret the decision and is already looking forward to working alongside Charles Leclerc and preparing for F1's long-awaited new regulations in 2022.

As one championship has concluded, another has burst back into life last weekend.
