Vautier moves into Indy Lights points lead after victory at Milwaukee
Tristan Vautier survived late-race pressure from Sebastian Saavedra to claim his second Indy Lights victory of the season at Milwaukee
Vautier started from pole and led every lap, but he was forced to work hard for his win when his tyres began to fade in the final stages, allowing Saavedra to close in.
The Colombian stayed close as they navigated lapped traffic, but despite repeated tries on both the high and low line, and a gentle bump from his left-front against Vautier's right-rear, he was unable to find a way past. The margin between the pair was 0.3370s.
"I just had an amazing car," said Vautier, who gave team owner Sam Schmidt his 50th Lights victory and moved into the championship lead in the process.
"It was a great race, we were in control. The end was a little harder with the lapped traffic, but an awesome day, an awesome job from the team."
Esteban Guerrieri worked his way up to third with the help of a late pass on Carlos Munoz, while fourth went to David Ostella, who seemed immune to the tyre drop-off being experienced by those around him and picked up several positions over the last 20 laps.
