Scheckter's ban ends
Team Cheever's Tomas Scheckter is set to turn his first official laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday. The son of 1979 F1 World Champion Jody Scheckter was suspended for three days from all on-track activity by the Indy Racing League for unsportsmanlike driving for an ill-advised pass attempt on Jaques Lazier at Nazareth Speedway. Lazier suffered a back injury in the crash that sidelined him for the season
Scheckter was already under fire for crashing his boss Eddie Cheever out of the IRL season opener at Homestead Speedway. He also heavily damaged a car at California Speedway when he was hit by Hideki Noda after he slowed with a blown engine.
"I'm looking forward to having Tomas back," said Cheever, who is campaigning a third car at Indy for CART regular Max Papis. "I hope he learned his lesson that he is not out there racing by himself and I hope he gets it through his head that he must change his approach to how he drives in traffic. There is half a percent of Tomas' driving style that needs to change to make him a great oval racing driver."
Cheever stated that he's great a keen admirer of the 21-year old rookie.
"He is an integral part of Red Bull Cheever Racing," said the owner/driver. "He does a very good job as a test driver. He's very talented and everybody on the team has missed his work ethic these past three days of practice."
