Scheckter, Lazier out of hospital
Tomas Scheckter and Jaques Lazier have both left hospital following their collision during Sunday's Indy Racing League race at Nazareth
Lazier came off worse, with a lower spinal fracture and concussion. He was expected to be in hospital until the end of the week, but has been released already. He will undergo further evaluation at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis, but has not been admitted.
Scheckter suffered a cut to his lung and concussion. He travelled home to Indianapolis on a private plane owned by the Lazier family.
"First of all I want to thank the Lazier family for giving me a ride back to Indianapolis in their plane," said the South African. "It's unfortunate that we both ended up in hospital. I hope Jaques has a quick recovery and is back in the car as soon as possible.
"This was a shock for me, but I am going to concentrate on getting better now. Once again the Eddie Cheever Racing crew gave me an unbelievable car in the race. I look forward to getting back in shape and back in the race car."
While Lazier will be fighting to be fit for next month's Indianapolis 500, Scheckter is likely to be ready. But he may be stopped from racing is the IRL officials punish him for the Nazareth accident, which he has been blamed for causing. It was his second clash in four races.
