Power set for 2010 season comeback
Will Power is expected to be fit to drive in time for next season's IndyCar opener in March after doctors predicted that his rehabilitation from the back injuries he sustained in a practice crash at Sears Point will take four months
The Australian Penske Racing driver fractured three lumbar vertebrae and his fifth thoracic vertebra when he crashed into the Conquest Racing car of Nelson Philippe, who had spun over a blind crest.
Power also suffered a heavy concussion, but was released from hospital and returned to his home in Indianapolis last week.
After being examined by the IndyCar Series' orthopedic specialist Dr Terry Trammell, Power was fitted with a bespoke back brace.
He has begun physiotherapy and he will continue to wear the brace through his recovery period, which is expected to last at least until January.
"It feels great to be home," said Power. "I'm feeling better and stronger every day and I really have to say thanks for all the good wishes and support.
"We've heard from so many people in the IndyCar community and the fans have been great - they really helped keep my spirits up.
"I especially want to thank Roger Penske, Tim Cindric and the Penske Racing team for all they've done. It means so much to be part of this team."
