Penske takes delivery of new Dallara
Team Penske has taken delivery of the first Dallara to be built to the Indy Racing League's new 2003 regulations
The IRL has changed its chassis regulations this season, meaning that Dallara has had to build an all-new car. The Italian manufacturer will face opposition in 2003 from rival constructors Panoz Gforce and Falcon.
The car was flown from Dallara's factory in Italy to Penske's workshop in Reading, Pennsylvania. Before the car can run on track, the team will strip the chassis, check each component and install electronics. Once this task has been completed, the car will be rebuilt and painted, and the drivers given seat fittings.
Tim Cindric, president of Penske Racing said: "At first glance, Dallara has changed the car dramatically from the 2002 chassis. Although it is always challenging to come to grips with new equipment, we are looking forward to the opportunity to compete under the new IRL technical specifications. It seems the series will be more competitive than ever, and I feel we will be ready to contend for the championship again."
