Kanaan leads Indy at half-distance

Andretti Green's Tony Kanaan has taken the lead from the hitherto dominant Ganassi duo at the halfway point of the 92nd Indianapolis 500

Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon had monopolised the leading positions for the majority of the first 100 laps, swapping the lead both on-track and in the pitstops.

The only other man to get a look in at the front was Buddy Rice (Dreyer & Reinbold), who briefly held the lead while running an out-of-sequence pit strategy.

Kanaan and teammate Marco Andretti have shadowed the Ganassi duo for most of the race, but on the restart after a long yellow for Jaime Camara's Turn 2 crash, Kanaan put on a charge and passed both Dixon and Wheldon within a handful of laps.

Dixon is now second ahead of Andretti and Wheldon, with Luczo Dragon Racing's Tomas Scheckter also running with the leaders in fifth.

The race has been interrupted by four yellows so far - firstly due to Bruno Junqueira's Dale Coyne Dallara depositing a mirror on the front straight, and then for single-car crashes by Graham Rahal, Marty Roth and Camara. All escaped injury.
